Dear Panthers and IHSNO Parents/Guardians,

Thank you to everyone who attended our High School Fair yesterday! We hope that you found it helpful and that you gained some valuable insights and resources from the participating schools. Please remember that if you are planning to attend a charter school in Orleans Parish, you must submit your application through NCAP by next Friday, January 24, in order to receive closing school priority.

On Monday, January 20, IHSNO will be closed in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. There will be no classes on this day.

As you know, the safety of our students, families, and faculty/staff is our top priority. In conjunction with NOLA-PS, the City of New Orleans Office of Emergency Preparedness, and Orleans Parish officials, our administration has been closely monitoring next week's winter weather conditions. The exact nature of the weather remains uncertain, but preparations should be made for potential ice, sleet, or snow from Monday night through Wednesday.

Because of the potential for ice accumulation, which poses hazardous conditions for bus travel and family commutes, IHSNO will be closed on Tuesday, January 21. This decision aligns with the City of New Orleans recommendations to close its offices and roads due to a predicted hard freeze from Monday evening through Tuesday morning. The police department is proactively closing roads to prevent them from becoming hazardous, and the City is urging residents to avoid travel during this period.

We will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and will notify families about school operations for Wednesday, January 22, by Tuesday afternoon. We encourage our families to monitor local weather reports and check IHSNO's social media and IHSNO app for the latest updates.

Please take precautions to protect your home, pets, and vulnerable family members. For winter weather preparation tips, visit ready.nola.gov/home/.

Weather Update for the Coming Week:

  • Monday, January 20, 2025: Expect a significant drop in temperatures, with lows potentially dipping into the mid-20s. There is a possibility of light freezing rain or sleet in the evening,

which could lead to icy conditions by Tuesday morning.

  • Tuesday, January 21, 2025: Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing, increasing the risk of ice on roads and sidewalks.

  • Wednesday, January 22, 2025: A gradual warming trend is anticipated, with temperatures expected to rise above freezing by midday, potentially alleviating some of the earlier hazards.

We hope you have a great and reflective long weekend. Please stay safe and warm!
