A Message from the Head of School

Dear Panthers,

I hope you are all doing well as we begin another week. Report cards were sent out on Friday via email and hard copies to students. Please check your inbox for your child’s second-semester grades. If you have any questions or concerns about specific grades, please feel free to reach out to the respective teacher.

We have some staff changes we’d like to make you aware of:

  • Welcome Zaharia Zeringue: We are excited to introduce Zaharia Zeringue as our new Front Office Assistant! Ms. Z will be the welcoming face at our entrance, greeting families, students, and visitors to IHSNO. Please join us in giving Ms. Z a warm welcome to our school community.

  • Farewell to Mr. Francois: We are sad to announce that Mr. Francois, our Math Teacher, is no longer with us. We want to extend our best wishes to him on his new adventure. His contributions to our school culture and his dedication to students will be greatly missed.

  • Welcome Mr. Terry Shields: We are pleased to announce that Mr. Terry Shields is joining our team as the new Math Teacher. Mr. Shields started on Friday and will begin teaching this week. Let’s make sure to give him a warm welcome and offer any support needed to help him settle in smoothly.

A reminder that Monday, January 20th is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This is a day to honor the contributions of Dr. King to our nation’s history and social justice movements. School will be closed in observance of MLK Day. Monday is also Inauguration Day, marking an important moment in our country’s democratic process.

Simultaneously, we are preparing for severe winter weather in our area. Cold Weather Advisories are in effect starting Sunday night through Tuesday, and a Winter Storm Watch has been issued from 12 a.m. Monday through 12 a.m. Tuesday. Arctic air is expected to move into southeast Louisiana, with temperatures dropping below freezing by Monday morning. We are also expecting 1 to 3 inches of snow on Tuesday, which could lead to hazardous road conditions and significant disruptions to travel. We advise everyone to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel.

Due to the anticipated weather conditions, school will be closed on Tuesday, January 21st. We will provide updates on Tuesday afternoon if there are any changes to Wednesday’s schedule. Please stay safe, stay warm, and stay indoors.

Thank you for your attention, and we wish everyone a safe and warm week ahead!

With gratitude,

Dr. Berger
CEO and Head of School

Opportunities Pass

Thank you to Ride New Orleans for helping our juniors and seniors sign up for the free Opportunities Pass last week! The Opportunity Pass Pilot Program provides free transit passes to Orleans Parish residents ages 16 to 24 through the RTA Le Pass App.

If your student wasn't able to sign up for the Opportunities Pass in person last week, it's not too late. They can still sign up at any New Orleans Parish Public library. More information may be found here.

IB Mardi Gras Project

Happy Mardi Gras, Panthers!! The IB Design class will be designing Mardi Gras floats for their next project. In Design class, each project is produced with guidelines aligned with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals, which includes recycling for the environment. We will be designing Mardi Gras floats using recycled materials. Any materials you would like to contribute would be greatly appreciated. We are also looking for the use of four (4) wagons to use for the floats. We will use these wagons for our parade on February 26, the Wednesday before Mardi Gras break, where we will parade around the block around the school. The winning design group will receive a King Cake to enjoy before we leave for the break. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Mrs. Griffin at shannon.griffin@ihsnola.org.
